I am Learning to Solve Subtraction Problems by Counting back from the Largest Number.

I am in Toru for maths and we have been learning how to solve subtraction problems by counting back from the largest number. We started with single digit numbers and moved on to double digit numbers.

My Reflection
I think that it is tricky to solve take away problems because you need to say it out loud  and it is scary to be on video.  Counting back from the biggest number is a good way to work out subtraction problems. I think that I could do it with even bigger numbers! The biggest numbers ever!

I am Learning to add Detail to my Writing.

Room 8 has been learning how to add detail into our writing to make it more interesting. We can think about the questions: Who? What? Where? When? How? and Why? to help us add this detail.
We have recently started swimming again and chose this shared experience to write about.

On Friday Room 8 went to the pool. I didn't go to the pool because my mum said it's cold. We had jump jam in the pool. After that I went back to class and it was lunch time. We did jump jam. I felt good because I was not swimming. Yay!

My Reflection
I think that I did a good job of my writing because I tried to add detail. I think that it is easy to add detail because we have questions to help us (who, what, where, when, how, why?). I will try to add detail to my writing everyday to make it more interesting. I like writing.

I am Learning to Draw Patterns.

In Room 8 we have been making flower headpieces for our wearable arts. These will be displayed next term! We have worked really hard on our patterns.

I am Learning to Identify 2D and 3D Shapes.

In Room 8 we have been learning about Geometry. We have looked at different 2D and 3D shapes and their different parts. We learned that shapes have different numbers of sides, faces, edges and corners of vertices.
We had a lot of fun making monsters out of different shapes!

My monster's name is Matthew. He is a circle. If he was a 3D shape he would be a sphere. The monster likes to go to the slide and do fitness.

My Reflection
I think my monster looks funny.
I found geometry easy because I knew some of the names of shapes already.
Learning about 3D shapes can be tricky because there are lots of sides.

I am Learning to Recognise and Read Long Vowel Sounds and Silent E.

I am in Max group for reading. We are at the green reading level. We have been learning about long vowel sounds and how a silent e can change the vowel sound in different words.

Success Criteria:
- correctly identify words with long vowel sounds and silent e.
- correctly identify the long vowel sound in the words.
- read words with and without the silent e and notice the difference.

My Reflection
I think that I did very well.
It is easy to read words that have a long vowel sound. I can tell the difference between words that have a silent e and the ones that don't have a silent e.
It can be hard to know what sound the vowels make when they are short or long.

I am Learning to Write a Cinquain Poem.

In Room 8 we have been learning how to write a cinquain poem. These poems have a special order that the words have to be put in. We have practiced writing cinquains in our writing books and published our most recent poems on Spring.

Success Criteria:
- All words must relate to the topic.
- The second line must contain two adjectives.
- The third line must contain three verbs with an -ing ending.
- The fourth line must be a four word sentence about Spring.

Spring
New, colourful
Running, jumping, playing
Spring flowers are colouring
Trees

My Reflection
It was easy to write a cinquain poem because I like writing.
It was tricky to think of a sentence with only four words.
My Spring cinquain is good because I could think about lots of good words about spring.

I am Learning to Use Punctuation Correctly.

Last week we celebrated Matariki with a pyjama and breakfast morning at school!
It was lots of fun and gave us good ideas to write about. Our focus in writing has been on using different types of punctuation correctly.

I need to:
- Use at least two different types of punctuation.
- Use the punctuation in a way that makes my writing more interesting.
- Put the punctuation in the right places.

This morning we did jump jam and had breakfast. We like Elm Park School. I like a teacher because they very love me. We feel good. It is good. Matariki is the best time to eat. Matariki food is yummy but it was very very very very big big big raining but it was sunny so hot.

My Reflection

I am proud of how I put my full stops in the right places.
It is sometimes tricky to put punctuation in my writing because it is hard to know where to put them.
Next time I could try to use different types of punctuation, like exclamation marks and question marks.
